Ted talk

My final project has been completed. I put the finishing touches on the power point this week. The final project took a little longer to than I expected to have it finished.

However the focus I had this week was doing the ted talk. I feel that ted talk is the biggest thing part of the project. For the ted talk I had couple of things in mind I could use as my visuals. For one visual I thought about using is a picture of my sister Annalisa. She was the reason I got interested in learning ASL. Another thing I thought about using is a vocabulary box. Like show the words I knew before my project and what I learned for my project. I am still kinda nervous about giving the ted talk presentation. I do not like presenting in front of people. Also I feel like five minutes of talking is alot.

power point

My final project is coming along great. This week I focused on working on the power point. This is important because my final project is a power point presentation on American Sign Language. The thing that keeps me excited for this project is the desire to learn more about this language.

This picture just represents how this week I worked on the power point. For this week I really focused on the power point and trying finish as much as I could. Also with spring break coming up I wanted to limit my work I have to do over break. I have had the research for the project done for a while I just had to write it on the power point. I had been focusing on learning the language so is week had to be the one where I worked on the power point. The power point is the main point of this project so with the power point my project would not be anything.

grammar

This week for my twenty percent project I focused on grammar and sentence structure. This incorporates signs by using the signs I know and putting them in to sentences.

The reason I choose this picture was because it had some vocab that I had already known. Also it was one the the pictures with the shortest sentence. This pictures goes with my project because I learned grammar and sentence structures.I may not demonstrate them in my presentation but this helps with the project.  Knowing more about the language's grammar and sentence structures help learn the language. With these tools it makes the project a little easier. This knowledge also will help my communication skills with others. To be able to communicate with others after this project would be a good thing for me to be able to do. One goal I wanted to achieve was to communicate with others after this project. With this it can help me reach that goal.

Greeting

This week I worked on signing. I have been learning signs but this week I focused on my opening work.

This is the sign for hi. I choose this picture because I have been working my greeting for my presentation. This picture is just a basic sign to cover greeting. So for my project since I am doing it on American Sign Language I decided to open in sign language. Basic what I am saying is my first words in the presentation is going to be spoken in sign language. I will be signing hi my name is Joseph and my project is about American Sign Language. My classmates might be confused but right after I sign the greeting I will say it out loud. This was just a creative way I thought I could open up my project. Since it is on sign language I just thought opening up with spoken words would just be boring.

The signs

This week I work that will help with my final project. The final project is coming along and one thing that keeps me interested is that I want to learn more about American Sign Language.

asl family
The work I did was learning some more signs of American Sign Language. I learn the signs for mom, dad, brother, and sister. For my final project there was a part I planned to teach the class some basic signs. With these signs i would have demonstrated them in class to show that this project was not just a research but a project where I did actually learn something about American Sign Language. The picture just signifies all the signs that i learned this week. Instead of putting a picture of one I just summed them up in one. And all those signs are a part in families and that is why I choose this picture.

what"s new

Lately I just did some research on Cochlear Implants. The final product is coming a long a little slow but its getting there. The thing that keeps me excited is I want to see how my final product comes out. I want to show that i can finish the project. One thing that bothers me is the time I put in. I have to put more time outside of class on the project.
 processor on ear
This is related because i just did some research on Cochlear Implants. Ms. Weck gave me the idea to do research on this topic. So I found out somethings about it. Like i wanted to find how this get started. Also I wanted to see how it works. I wanted to know how this gives deaf people ability to hear. The last thing I wanted was how the deaf community felt on these implants. I wanted to see whether they liked the implant or were they against it.

Web sites

Nided.nih/gov/health/hearing/pages/ask.aspx
I found this website by searching background information on ASL. With my presentation I need to give  some information on like the basics of ASL.  On the website it has a lot of information on ASL. It  discusses what ASL is used for,  how to sign, and like how ASL varies from place to place. This is helpful to me because it helps me with learning the basic information on ASL.

Lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-layout/grammar.htm
I found this website by searching up the grammar rules of sign language. On the website it told me sign language has separate grammar system from English. Also told me it followed topic comment arrangement.  This is helpful to me because I need to know the grammar rules when I present. I wouldn't want to show the class the wrong things about ASL. Also it helps so when I sign to other people outside of school I could make sure I'm using the right grammar

The challenge

This picture relates to the problem I have because i am a little confused in my project. I have most of my research done and most the of learning done which means all I have left is my power point. This were the confusion comes in. I have no idea how I am going to start the slide show. I mean I have all the work done puts it just putting it all together. Like I do not know how I am going to organize all the research I have. Then another confusion I have is the actual presenting part. I do not really like presenting but also I do not know how I want to present it. I am confused on how i want the information to be. Like I do not know what information i want first like whether i want to start with the history of ASL or should i start with basic rules and signs of ASL.

Sign Language

On my project I am on learning the sign language alphabet. I have learned the letters a-o and still have to learn p-z. As of this entry i have finished up my research on the history of ASL and have just started the research of its grammatical rules. Also I have set up how how want my power point to look like.

This picture is of the sign language alphabet which signifies the importance of learning the alphabet. In ASL you can communicate with signs for words or finger spell the word. I wanted to be able to communicate in both ways. It also signifies the signs for other words. With this project not only is there the power point but there is a time I plan to teach the basic signs like for mom, dad, family, love etc. I have already learned mom and dad and now I have to learn the other basic signs.

THE PITCH

I want to give a power-point on sign language and its history.

The concern with my pitch has nothing to do with the pitch it's the actual speaking part I am worried about. I have practiced my pitch but still worried about speaking. I may practice over and over but it is a completely different situation when you are speaking with Ms. Weck watching. Also there is that fear of messing up while talking and it could make it look like you are not prepared. The confidence I have in my pitch is very high. I did not have any trouble making my pitch and I was able to answer the questions on the worksheet very easily. I believe that my information in my pitch will be perfect. I answered all the questions and feel that it will make a wonderful pitch.

THE START

So far the project is interesting and a little difficult. The fact that I am able to choose what I want to do for this project makes it so interesting. Being able to decide the subject I want study makes the project so interesting. Also the difficult part about the project is that I have never be in this contol.  I have never got to choose what I want to study and this is putting me out of my comfort zone. Not that many people know what Sign Language is. They know that it is the langauge in which people communicate but that is all they know. With is project i would plan to teach people more about this language so that they could learn more about it.  http://lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-layout/concepts.htm and 100 first signs.
http://mentalfloss.com/article/13107/7-things-you-should-know-about-sign-language and 7 things you should know about sign language.
I found the 100 first signs web site by serching for sign language basic signs. This will help better my project by teaching me the basic signs of sign language. I found the 7 things you should know about sign language by seaching up sign language rules.  With this website it can help my product my giving me rules about sign language. It has grammar rules and other rules that sign language has.
